“The Making of Milwaukee” was the basis for an Emmy Award-winning documentary series that premiered on Milwaukee Public Television in 2006. Together the books total more than 900 pages and feature 2,000 illustrations. His most ambitious efforts are “The Making of Milwaukee,” the first full-length history of the community published since 1948 and “Milwaukee: City of Neighborhoods,” a geographic companion that has quickly become the standard work on grassroots Milwaukee. He is the author of 23 books, including histories of Milwaukee-area neighborhoods, industries and places of worship. Gurda is a Milwaukee-born writer and historian who has been studying his hometown since 1972.
As part of the university’s Commencement ceremonies, Gurda will be presented an honorary doctor of letters degree. Guests will not be able to directly claim tickets through the lottery.Ticket transferring will be open through the day of Commencement, Saturday, May 20. The Commencement tickets claimed in the lottery process will need to be transferred to guests the same way as the initial Commencement tickets.Once any additional tickets are claimed, the process cannot be repeated. Each student will only have one chance to claim up to two tickets.Only students who RSVP’d “yes” and have already claimed tickets will be eligible for the lottery.Students will need to use their Marquette email to log into their My Marquette Account, which will be the same login used to claim their initial Commencement tickets.Students should look for an email from University Special Events the afternoon of April 20, which will contain a link to the Marquette Commencement Ticket Lottery Portal.on May 20 the Graduate School and Graduate School of Management ceremony will be later that day at 2 p.m.Īs previously announced, students will have a chance to claim up to two additional Undergraduate Commencement guest tickets starting the afternoon of Thursday, April 20.
